A Tough Customer, This Husqvarna GTH52XLS Garden Tractor

Husqvarna GTH52XLS V-Twin Briggs and Stratton engine

With a 24 HP, 724cc Briggs and Stratton V-Twin engine, the GTH52XLS has everything you need for a powerful and long-lasting garden tractor!  There is an oversized cooling fan, along with chrome-plated valves and enhanced air filtration to add to the robustness of this machine.

Though top forward speed is listed at 5.5 mpg, this speedster will actually top out at 7.8 mph.  That is as fast as it gets for garden tractors.  Reverse speed is a shade over 2 mph.

A 52 inch cutting width, with 3 blades, will neatly trim the largest of lawns in record time.  The cutting deck is fabricated (welded) using two sheets of 11 gauge steel to give it maximum toughness and strength.  Grass cuttings can be processed by mulching, bagging, or side discharge.

Husqvarna GTH52XLS fender mounted deck lever

There are 7 cutting height settings ranging from 1.5 to 4 inches…adjustable using a fender mounted deck lever.

The hydrostatic transmission includes an automatic rear locking differential that increases traction and stability on hills…and, like the Energizer bunny, it just keeps going…and going…and going…up…and up!  This transmission is much easier to maintain than standard automatic transmissions used on low-end lawn and garden tractors because, it doesn’t use belts to propel the tractor.  Belts tend to wear out at the most inconvenient times.  This transmission uses fluid and offers a smoother ride both forward and reverse.

Some of the other features include:

Cup holder – A garden tractor is never complete without a place to secure cold, liquid refreshments while zooming around the yard and garden!

LED headlights – These are much, much better than the old incandescent lights that used to adorn garden tractors!  They put more light on the subject and they last a lot longer.

SmartSwitch – This tractor offers a key-less operation pad with one touch starting and stopping.  You can program a security code to prevent anyone else from operating it without your knowledge.

Automatic shut off switch – It’s located under the driver’s seat so, if you fall off the tractor, everything stops instantly.

Towing capable hitch – Tow your garden dump cart or attach any number of great gadgets to make your yard and garden tasks easier to accomplish.  Attachments can be made to both the front and back of the tractor and, the list is endless…snow blades and snow throwers, dethatchers, aerators, spreaders, graders, etc.

The GTH52XLS is covered by an overall 3 year warranty and, additionally, the frame, chassis, and front axle have a 5 year warranty!

Downsides

Husqvarna GTH52XLS fuel gauge placement awkwardHusqvarna GTH52XLS not enough room to get in

Husqvarna GTH52XLS battery indicator drains batteryHusqvarna GTH52XLS high right side of cutting deck rubs floor

Fuel gauge placement makes it difficult to see the fuel level during operation.

Not enough room to climb onto the tractor.  I have to kind of slide under the steering wheel as I get on.

The battery minder/status indicator will slowly drain the battery.  Thus, it is prudent to unplug it behind the dash in the battery compartment…or remove one of the battery cables from the battery.  An ounce of prevention as they say…

The cutting deck has been known to rub against the tractor floor on the right side…because the right side is a little higher than the left side.  But, this only happens when the cutting deck is in the higher positions.

If you are wearing gloves, it is a little difficult to enter the security code on the keypad of the SmartSwitch.

My Last Word

Some owners have nicknamed this little garden tractor “The Mountain Goat” due to the ease at which it can sprint up steep hills carrying heavily laden trailers or voraciously eating up the tall grass and weeds as it climbs and descends.

Despite some of its nagging faults, the Husqvarna GTH52XLS is a real find at the current price.  And, it is rated #1, in other words the best in its class, by almost every reliable analysis comparing it to various other brands or garden tractors!

Check it out and I’m sure you’ll agree!

In my humble opinion, this machine can do it all.  What do you think?  Let me know by commenting below or email me: jim@perfect-vegetable-garden.com.

This looks like a wonderful mower for my Dad. He always goes around in his old one, but it just does not work like it used to. I will send this to him.

I do have a question though. You said that it is difficult to see the fuel gauge placement while running the tractor. How long does it usually last at maximum? 1-2 hours? Or more? I look forward to hearing your answer.

Thank you for sharing and I hope you make it a great day!

The Husqvarna GTH52XLS would be a perfect garden tractor for your Dad, Alex!  I would put it at the top of the list when deciding which one had the most cost to benefit ratio.

The GTH52XLS may be a tough customer but, it is incredibly easy on gas.  The 4 gallon tank almost never seems to get empty because, you can mow an acre of yard on less than half a gallon!  That’s a big savings from my old John Deere which would gobble up about 2 gallons for the same job!

You can find other top-notch candidates for your Dad, too, at Garden Tractor Reviews.  They are also pretty easy on gas consumption but, I’ve found that the GTH52XLS is the winner in this category!

      Thanks, for stopping by.

      Jim
